Nursing
means looking after the sick or injured. Nursing is also regarded important in
Islam. Our prophet (Peace be upon him) paid visits even to his ailing enemies.
Muslim women worked as nurses on the battlefields and in the hospitals.
Florence Nightingale is considered as the founder of modern nursing. She
decided to serve the suffering humanity by becoming a nurse Though her family
opposed her to becoming a nurse, she did not give in. Her family allowed her to
become a nurse at last. She got training for nursing in Germany. She managed
militry hospitals at Crimea. She was awarded £45000 for her services in the
war. She established an institution for training nurses in London with the
money.
